Teaching fellow sets new British record at European Masters Swimming Championships

Alex Thurston, Teaching Fellow in the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences, has won three medals at the European Masters, setting a new British record in his category.

The European Masters Swimming Championships allows adults over 18 years old to swim a maximum of 3 individual events against others in groups categorised by age.

Held at the London Aquatics Centre in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park,  Alex competed in the 200m Individual Medley, the 100m Butterfly and the 50m Butterfly in the 35-39 year age group.

Alex won gold in the both the 200m Individual Medley and 100m Butterfly, while also setting a new British record for the Individual Medley in the 35-39 age group. He also won silver for his 50m Butterfly, coming in just 8/100ths behind the winning time.
