Issues following the EU Referendum

Clarification on a few of the more immediate issues following the EU Referendum is now beginning to emerge from Government.

Jo Johnson, the Minister of State for Universities and Science, has confirmed that financial support through the Student Loans Company will continue for EU students who are already studying at university or are about to start this year. These students will continue to receive funding for the duration of their courses.

There will not be any immediate change to the UK university sector’s participation in EU programmes such as Erasmus+ study abroad, and there will be no immediate changes for either European citizens living here or for British citizens living in the EU. This includes those studying or working at UK universities.

The UK Research Office has advised that the UK’s status as a full participating member of the Horizon 2020 research funding programme has not changed as a result of the referendum vote and UK institutions are still currently fully eligible to apply for Horizon 2020 funding.

We have made a series of FAQs available on our website, which we will continue to update as and when the situation is clarified further.
