Academic appointed editor of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health’s journal

Academic, Dr Patrick Waterson, has been appointed editor of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health’s (IOSH) academic and policy discourse journal – Policy and Practice in Health and Safety (PPHS).

The appointment comes after Taylor & Francis Group and IOSH announced a new publishing partnership in September to secure PPHS as ‘the natural home to the best health and safety research and policy’.

Currently a Reader in Human Factors and Complex Systems at the Loughborough Design School, Dr Waterson is a former Scientific Editor for the journal Applied Ergonomics and served on the editorial boards of Cognition, Technology and Work, and IIE Transactions on Occupational Ergonomics and Safety Science.

He takes over from Professor David Walters as editor of PPHS and is now working on the journal’s May edition.

Dr Waterson said: “PPHS can build on its reputation and become one of the leading journals in the OSH world, bridging the gap between scientific research and OSH practice and policy. If someone is conducting a piece of research, we will explore how their findings can be built into practical solutions and make a real difference.

“We are ambitious for the journal. We want it to grow in size and readership and reach out internationally. A definite aim of PPHS is to provide the safety and health professional with the knowledge to stay one step ahead in what is a fast-developing world of work.”
