The Great £10 Hall Challenge

Teams from 13 halls of residence took part in the first ever Great £10 Hall Challenge – raising almost £1,000 for Rag in just one week.

Inspired by PhD student Alan Radbourne’s One Pound Challenge, the teams had just £10 each and seven days to find novel ways to outdo one another and claim the Challenge trophy.

The victors were Royce, raising more than £225. Inspired by Shrove Tuesday fayre, they cooked and sold pancakes across campus. Towers took second place, and Harry French came third – both also with food-related fundraisers.

Other tasks included cooking morning cheese toasties, cleaning bedrooms, and couriering breakfast across campus.

Emma Bishop, the Students’ Union’s Student Enterprise Engagement Manager, said: “It’s a fantastic result. We are delighted that the teams worked so hard and inventively to raise money for Rag – they demonstrated real enterprise, determination and enthusiasm.

“We plan to make the Challenge an annual contribution to Rag fundraising. Who knows who’ll win next year’s Challenge trophy – and what imaginative ways they’ll cook up to do it? Congratulations and a big thank you to everyone who took part.”
