Loughborough University London becomes academic partner of Sports Industry NextGen

The Institute for Sport Business at Loughborough University London will become the academic partner of Sports Industry NextGen, the Sports Industry group has announced.

The partnership which also includes Barclays will boost the educational offering for the new initiative’s Winners and Finalists, which will be revealed at the Sport Industry NextGen Awards night in London on Wednesday 27 January 2016.

The Sport Industry NextGen Awards will help to identify future leaders of the sports industry. An expert judging panel will also be present to identify 30 finalists who will receive key areas of support to better equip them for future leadership roles. Of the 30 finalists, six winners will be chosen.

Director of Institute for Sport Business at the University Professor James Skinner will sit on the judging panel alongside the likes of Alistair Campbell and Maggie Alophnsi.

As well as joining up for the Sports Industry NextGen awards, the relationship will also see Loughborough University London continue to sponsor Cutting Edge Sport, where the University will supply content to the Sports Industry Group owned website, which highlights sport in progressive thought, invention and digital engagement.

The University’s involvement with Cutting Edge Sport will include sponsorship of the Cutting Edge Sport Award at the BT Sport Industry Awards 2016 for the second consecutive year.

Professor Skinner said: “Loughborough University has long been recognised for its international reputation in sport and as a result recognises the importance of the place of leadership in shaping the future of the global sport industry. The Master of Sport Leadership Programme at Loughborough London will help build the leadership potential of the next generation of sport leaders.

“The programme builds a bridge between theory and practice through an innovative curriculum that challenges perceptions and applications of leadership in a sport context. There is no doubt that those individuals that complete this programme will have the leadership knowledge and skills to take the global sport industry forward.”
