School of Civil and Building Engineering academics receive Highly Commended paper award

Academics from the School of Civil and Building Engineering from Loughborough University have received the Highly Commended paper award in the 2015 Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence.

The paper titled “Evaluation of factors and approaches affecting emergency department space planning” was written by Loughborough University Professors Federica Pascale, Nebil Achour and Andrew D.F.Price, in collaboration with Professor Francesco Poliverino from the University of Naples Federico II, Italy.

The paper aims to evaluate emergency department design space planning and draws lessons for developing more resilient guidelines. It also explores potential factors affecting the performance of emergency departments and investigates how design space planning is addressed internationally.

Overall, the study showed that research can provide a valuable contribution to improve emergency departments and further action will be taken to develop a prediction model that will lead to a more resilient design approach.

The paper was selected for the award by the journal’s editorial team and was described as ‘one of the most impressive pieces of work the team has seen throughout 2014’.
