Call out to crafters

Charnwood Arts, Loughborough’s independent community arts group is calling on University staff and students with an interest in arts and craft to get involved in their latest research project.

Students from the School of the Arts textile programme are taking part and the project is being co-ordinated by Sarah Green, who recently completed a MA programme with the School.

Our Knitted Story is a project from Charnwood Arts’ Big Knitting Group. The project focuses on the connections, bonds, memories and stories created by knitting through different generations and different cultures.  It will culminate in an exhibition and installation at Charnwood Museum in the summer.

As part of the final exhibition there will be an installation called The Enchanted Garden.  This will be used as a story telling environment and will be open to storytellers and other groups for the duration of the exhibition.

Staff and students are invited to make items for the garden and send them to Charnwood Arts.  They would like crafted leaves, stars, mushrooms, toadstools and ladybirds.  Their colour scheme for the installation is metallic, purples, blues, red, grey, brown, white or any other neutral colour.  They would also like to receive short pieces of writing (no more than 200 words) about individual crafting stories.

The deadline for crafted creations is Friday 1 May 2015.  They can be sent to Charnwood Arts, 27 Granby Street, Loughborough, Leicestershire, LE11 3DU.
