University home to new assessment centre for students with additional needs
Students with disabilities and additional needs in Loughborough and the surrounding areas will now be able to take advantage of a new assessment centre based at the University.
The centre will be managed by staff from Hereward College in Coventry and provide assessments for students who are eligible for the Disabled Student Allowance (DSA).
The DSA helps to cover the costs of any assistive technologies and additional support required when attending university. The team work with each young person to assess their support needs, recommend a range of technologies, non-medical support and liaise with external stakeholders, including universities, to ensure needs are fully addressed.
Paul Doyle, Head of Access and Research at Hereward College said: “We are delighted to be working with Loughborough University to provide this innovative service to the young people in the region. Hereward has an established wealth of experience working alongside students with assistive technology and support needs and all assessments are informed by the college’s proactive approach to seeking out and embedding new technologies into teaching and learning.”
