Staff Christmas volunteering projects

With Christmas around the corner, it’s the perfect time to get involved in some rewarding volunteering projects and help those in need.

There are some fantastic opportunities taking place over the seasonal period which have been organised by the University and Students’ Union.

The University and LSU are teaming up with the Salvation Army to give staff the opportunity to volunteer at a local soup kitchen. Action volunteers from the Students’ Union currently help out at the soup kitchen every Sunday, where they prepare, cook and serve hot dinners for members of the local community who are in need of support.

The Christmas project will run on Sunday 20 December and Sunday 3 January from 5.30 – 8.30pm at the Salvation Army, Ashby Road, Loughborough. As this is a period where many students are away from the University, it is hoped staff will be able to fill in for them.

There is also a ‘shoebox’ collection of small gifts for adults, taking place at the Falcon Centre in Loughborough. The Falcon Centre provides accommodation and support for vulnerable individuals in the community whilst helping them get back on their feet.

The shoebox gifts will be given to residents on Christmas Day. Donations for items to be used as gifts such toiletries, food, cosmetics or clothing are welcomed and would be much appreciated. The deadline for gifts is Thursday 17 December.

To take part in either project, please email Steph Noble on s.noble@lboro.ac.uk or call 222923.
