Former Tomorrow’s World presenter to give public lecture at Loughborough

Kate Bellingham

Engineer, TV and radio presenter Kate Bellingham will be at Loughborough University next month to give a public lecture highlighting the importance of encouraging more women to consider a career in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

The lecture – titled ‘Tech versus Talent in Tomorrow’s World’ – is the second Claudia Parsons Memorial Lecture. It will take place on Monday 18 May at 6pm.

Kate Bellingham, who campaigns for more women and girls to be given the opportunity to be involved in STEM, was a presenter of the BBC’s former flagship science and technology programme Tomorrow’s World for four years and is a former Patron of WISE – Women into Science and Engineering. She has received a UKRC Women of Outstanding Achievement Award for Communicating Science, Engineering and Technology to Society.

The Claudia Parsons lectures are part of the Athena SWAN initiative, a national programme that recognises the need to support the careers of women in STEM subjects.

Claudia Parsons was a student at Loughborough College from 1919-22, and was one of the first women to receive a diploma in Automobile Engineering. She became the first woman to circumnavigate the world by car and wrote about her experience in a number of influential travel books.

The lecture will take place in the University’s Stewart Mason Building, Room 0.14. Booking is essential. Register your attendance here
