Double victory for Loughborough at Lords

Loughborough Students have claimed two trophies, following victories for the men’s and women’s teams at Lords.

Loughborough MCCU women’s team, containing a number of England internationals, took on Exeter in the BUCS Championship Final aiming to finish the season unbeaten.

Loughborough opted to bat first, and compiled a commanding total of 305-9, with Lauren Winfield top scoring with 60.

Opening bowler Becky Grundy then made the breakthrough in the Exeter innings, finishing with figures of 6-10.

Anya Shrubsole secured the victory, taking the remaining wickets to bowl Exeter out for 68, and give Loughborough a huge winning margin of 227 runs.

In the Men’s Challenge Final, Leeds/Bradford MCCU chose to bat first, scoring 244-9, with Loughborough bowler Devon Endersby finishing with figures of 6-42.

In the Loughborough innings opener and first year student Mark Best hit a fine century, before falling for 111 with only 11 runs required from 16 balls.

It was left it to Lewis Bramley to score the winning runs with three only balls to spare and claim a dramatic victory.
