The Student Wordsmith’s You is for University now available nationwide

Sophie-Louise Hyde

Creative platform The Student Wordsmith’s first anthology – You is for University – is now on sale nationwide.

Studio tenant and PhD student Sophie-Louise Hyde invited contributions to the collection via a competition – and was overwhelmed by the response.

According to Sophie: “Entries flew in from across the UK, and the standard of writing was extremely high.”

The anthology written by students for students – and issued by Loughborough’s student-led publishing house, Lamplight Press – offers a perfect A-to-Z of university life – making it ideal reading for Freshers and current – not to mention, former – students alike.

Indeed sales of the limited first edition were brisk, and reviews of the publication have been very positive.

The two established writers involved in the project – who helped judge which submissions should feature in the collection – have been unstinting in their praise of the writing and Sophie’s vision.

Writer and poet John Osborne – whose work includes critically-acclaimed BBC radio show John Peel's Shed – describes You is for University as a “one-of-a-kind university toolkit” with wide appeal.

Meanwhile, poet Kate Rhodes – whose latest work A Killing of Angels was released earlier this year – said: “You is for University is both a handy guide and heady collection of creative writing. Written by students for students, it has a contemporary edge which is its greatest strength.”

Sophie is thrilled by the success of the collection: “Bringing You is for University to print has been a challenging but exhilarating experience – one that has taught me many important lessons on how to succeed as a writer and businessperson. It’s given me the confidence to develop the Student Wordsmith further, and I’m hard at work on my first poetry collection.”
