SBE team shortlisted for national enterprise award

The team from the School of Business and Economics (SBE) that developed the FutureLearn MOOC (massive open online course) in Innovation and Enterprise has been shortlisted for the 2014 National Enterprise Educator (NEE) Awards.

The NEE Awards, run by the National Centre for Entrepreneurship in Education and Enterprise Educators UK, celebrate the achievements of those who show exceptional and inspirational commitment to supporting student and graduate entrepreneurship.

The Innovation and Enterprise MOOC is run by the University’s Glendonbrook Centre for Enterprise Education.

The SBE team – comprising Julie Holland, Amanda Berry, Jeannie Holstein and Phil Wilkinson-Blake – is shortlisted in the Higher Education Enterprise Educators category and are up against teams from Leeds and Sheffield universities.

Julie said: “The MOOC was a massive undertaking for the Glendonbrook Centre and a huge learning curve for us in terms of developing online teaching material.

“We are delighted with the positive comments we received from the participants, and we now have a great resource of high-quality teaching material that will benefit our own students.”

The winners of the NEE Awards will be announced as part of the International Entrepreneurship Educators conference gala dinner on 4 September in Newcastle.
