Commonwealth athletes to compete at annual LEAP event

Track and field athletes from across the Commonwealth will be in action on campus this weekend at the annual Loughborough European Athletics Permit meet (LEAP).
Adam Gemili, one of the most exciting young athletes in the country, will run in the 100m and 200m, in readiness for the Glasgow 2014 Games.
Adam, who is based at Loughborough via the British Athletics National Performance Institute, ran under 20 seconds for the 200 metres at last year’s World Championships.
Also competing in the sprints events is Paralympic and World Champion Jason Smyth from Ireland.
The event will be for some of the athletes their final competition on the track and in the field before the Commonwealth Games, commencing less than a week after the event.
This year a number of athletes from the Australian Commonwealth Games team will be in attendance, including Melissa Breen and Nicolas Hough.
Other Commonwealth Games athletes competing include 110m hurdler Greggmar Swift from Barbados, 2010 silver medallist Stuart Farquhar from New Zealand, and Loughborough’s Max Eaves, 2010 bronze medallist in the pole vault.
The event is being held at the Paula Radcliffe Athletics Centre on Saturday 19th July. Gates open at midday, with the first event starting at 1pm.
