Virus and phishing via spam email

Please be advised that a number of bogus/phishing* emails have been seen today, including an email with the subject line “PL REMITTANCE DETAILS ref” .

IT Service have taken steps to block these messages but similar messages may still arrive.

Please mark these emails as spam and do not click the links within them or open any attachments they might have.

If you have clicked the links or opened any attachments, please contact the IT service desk (E: it.services@lboro.ac.uk, T: 01509 222333) so they can check your computer. If you have a virus your PC may need to be re-imaged. If you have entered any bank account details from following the links on these web sites, please inform your bank as you may be subject to fraud as a result.

If you are unsure if an email is real or not please don't hesitate to contact the IT service desk who will be able to advise.

*Phishing is the attempt to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details (and sometimes, indirectly, money) by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication.
