Research Excellence Framework

Later this month the outcome of the Research Excellence Framework (REF) will be released.

The REF is the system through which the quality of research in all subject areas in UK universities is assessed. One of the primary aims of the REF is to inform the selective allocation of funds for research distributed by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).

We will receive the REF results for Loughborough on Tuesday 16 December and the outcome for all other universities will be available the following day. The publication of the results is embargoed until Thursday 18 December.

We have a detailed plan in place for disseminating the results and have a range of meetings arranged, including an extended ALT meeting on 16 December.

In order to keep staff up to date we have set up a dedicated website that will be a central point of information, providing the publication timetable and the assessment criteria, as well as details of Loughborough’s performance as and when they are published.
