Ellie selected for IPC Swimming European Championships

Loughborough based swimmer Ellie Simmonds has been selected for the 2014 IPC Swimming European Championships in Eindhoven.

Ellie will be competing in her third European Championships and will be looking to retain her two titles in the S6 400m Freestyle and SM6 200m Individual Medley.

Selection was confirmed following success at the Para-Swimming International Swimming Meet 2014 in Glasgow, where Ellie recorded qualifying times in multi-class events for the 100m & 400m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley.

Speaking at the meet in Glasgow Ellie Simmonds said:

“The 400m Free is one of my favourite races so it’s great to have won the gold and finish within the qualifying standard for the IPC European Championships.

“I’m really enjoying training with the Loughborough guys. Swimming close to my PBs this week has shown how good the move has been and being in a new environment and closer to home is great.”

Ellie will be joined in the squad by fellow Loughborough swimmer James Hollis, who recorded the qualification time in the S10 100m Butterfly.

They will be joined by Loughborough Swimming’s Steve Bayley who has been selected as a member of the coaching staff.
