Seven in Welsh Athletics Team for Glasgow
Three current Loughborough students join four alumni in the recently announced Welsh track and field team for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
David Guest was rewarded with selection for his recent big (7394 pts) decathlon score in Malaga, in joining Loughborough based graduate Ben Gregory in a three strong decathlon team bound for Scotland.
First year Sprinter Rachel Johncock also delivered on the final weekend of the selection period, her 11.45 PB 100m victory in the Welsh championships securing her a place in the Welsh 4x 100m squad. It was also the 2nd fastest ever electronic performance by a Welsh woman, just shy of the 11.39 National Record.
Paul Walker, just finishing his post graduate studies, was selected in the Pole Vault, his great indoor form – 5.45m – having already all but guarenteed his inclusion.
Current 400m hurdles European Champion Rhys Williams, joins 2011 World and defending Commonwealth champion Dai Greene, as both aim to repeat their podium finishes of four year ago in Dehi.
In the throws, former students GarethWinter (shot) and Carys Parry (Hammer) look to carry their excellent form (17.90m and 66.02m respectively) through to the Games in under 50 days time.
