Host nation Scotland select Loughborough athletes

15 Loughborough connected athletes will compete for the host nation Scotland at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, after a further nine athletes were selected today.

On the track current University Sports Scholar Jake Wightman will compete in the 1500m, with graduate and former Scholar Beth Potter competing in the 10,000m.

European 800m Champion Lynsey Sharp, who is based at the British Athletics National Performance Centre on campus, has also been selected.
In the field graduate and former Sports Scholar Myra Perkins has been selected for the hammer, after throwing a personal best of 63.11m at this year’s Loughborough International Athletics event.

Also selected is Henrietta Paxton, a Loughborough Sport staff member and Loughborough Students’ Athletics Coach (LSAC) for Pole Vault, as is fellow vaulter Loughborough based athlete Gregor MacLean.

Other athletes based on campus to be selected are James Campbell (javelin) – coached by LSAC head of throws David Parker, Kirsty Law (Discus) and Alison Rodger (Shot Putt) – both coached by LSAC’s Jim Edwards.

They are joined by current student Guy Learmonth (800m), staff member Laura Whittle (5,000m), Mark Dry (hammer), Jayne Nisbet (high jump), Eilish McColgan (3,000m steeplechase) and Paralympic medallist Libby Clegg, who were pre-selected last year.
