Loughborough University teams make Engineering YES final
Two teams from Loughborough have secured a place in this year’s Engineering YES final, a national competition that encourages engineering enterprise.
Engineering YES aims to raise awareness of the commercialisation of engineering ideas and encourages enterprise amongst postgraduate research students and post-doctoral researchers.
The annual competition, founded in 2009, invites participants to showcase their innovation and teamwork skills to industry experts from commercial, financial and engineering sectors.
Revma (formerly InnovaPlus) from the School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering and Bra-U-niQ, from the School of Chemical Engineering, are the two teams representing Loughborough this year.
Both teams have been successful in three heats held in Bristol, Birmingham and Leeds, securing a place at the Engineering YES final (15 June).
The Revma team have developed a business plan for an environmentally friendly, low cost, ozone based water cleaning system for swimming pools.
Bra-U-niQ will be presenting their idea of an integrated system to scan women and 3D print made-to-measure one strap bras.
The programme is run by Loughborough University in partnership with Loughborough Beacon Rotary and other Rotary clubs around the UK. Rolls Royce is the main sponsor for the event, with support from Royal Bank of Scotland, Natural Environment Research Council, Potter Clarkson and the Rotary Clubs.
The two teams will now battle against four other teams at the Innovation Campus Birmingham to win the overall title in the Engineering YES 2016 final.
