Sports Management
Becky White launched her fitness solutions business onesixeight: fitness as she approached the final year of her Sports Management degree.
"I found the mini-trampoline exercise, called Urban Rebounding, at an industry trade show and decided to try it myself. I found it to be so much fun and very effective so decided to launch a business where other people could experience the benefits too," she explained.
Becky developed a business plan and created a website before networking at local business meetings to grow a client base. She received a start-up business grant from the Enterprise Inc. programme which helped her set up a website and buy equipment. The programme also provided business workshops and a mentor to help with the set-up process.
Becky launched group fitness sessions and despite difficulties at the beginning, now runs a very successful class in Loughborough. She is also working with the University and local borough councils to provide a series of other fitness classes. Becky won a highly commended award and The Gill Cooke Award at the University’s Student Business Plan Awards 2010.
