Dialog Devices is a Loughborough University spin out that has invented an innovative, potentially life-saving device called Padd™. Padd™ (Peripheral Arterial Disease assessment Device) is a quick and painless way to 'see' below the surface of the skin and assess peripheral blood circulation.

It can spot changes in circulation, allowing earlier diagnosis of illnesses such as peripheral arterial disease (PAD) which is an early symptom of heart disease and stroke. Dialog Devices is making an impact in the US where PAD is a widespread matter for concern.  In the UK alone, around 1 in 5 men and 1 in 8 women aged 50-75 years have PAD.  It becomes more common with increasing age.

Dr Vincent Crabtree, Padd™'s inventor and technical director of Dialog Devices, was inspired by the plight of his grandfather who died at 55 after having his leg amputated due to peripheral arterial disease, something that may well have been prevented with Padd™. The company was founded on research carried out at Loughborough as part of Vincent's PhD.

Since gaining £250k seed funding in 2005, Dialog Devices has grown organically and now employs an eight-strong team comprising business, marketing and technical expertise. The company is based in the Innovation Centre on Loughborough University Science and Enterprise Park. Padd™ is currently undergoing a multi centre trial in GP surgeries, following a £0.4m Department of Health award.
