Arup associate director Dr Sarah Bowden was keen to remain in industry and progress her career, whilst examining a specific problem in depth. Embarking on a Doctoral Training Programme at our Centre for Innovative and Collaborative Construction Engineering (CICE) enabled her to achieve this goal.
Her EngD project focussed on using mobile computer technology to deliver and collect information from the workforce on construction sites.
She said: "The industrial and academic mix within the EngD provided a great balance for me."
Impact
- Dr Bowden was promoted both during her studies and shortly after graduation
- Elements of Dr Bowden’s project work were directly implemented on site
- Arup has continued to sponsor students at the CICE to undertake research projects of immediate value to the business, and to develop its staff and further strengthen the pool of available talent
