Engineering Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning - engCETL
Loughborough University has a first class reputation for teaching engineering, forged through a close relationship with industrial partners and a proactive approach to teaching.
This is reflected in the fact that Loughborough was awarded the Engineering Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (engCETL) in recognition of our exceptional work in teaching engineering and in collaborating with industry to deliver a rich and relevant educational experience.
As a reward for this excellence, and to further enhance teaching, the Higher Education Funding Council for England allocated funding of over £4 million to the five departments in the Faculty of Engineering, as well as to the Department of Materials, the Department of Design and Technology and the Engineering Education Centre.

Facilities and support for students
The capital funding has allowed the centre to develop a new state of the art facility, with innovative learning spaces populated with the latest technology, all of which are available to students for group project work and exam revision. Each room contains a data projector and interactive whiteboard connected to a PC loaded with engineering-specific software. In addition, laptops, graphics tablets, camcorders, portable hard drives and other items are available for hire.
The engCETL also runs student events designed to provide undergraduates with some of the key skills desired by employers, particularly in relation to industrial experience. All engCETL student workshops are extra-curricular and free to attend for Loughborough University undergraduates. Topics include: preparing for placements, practice assessment centres, oral presentation skills, technical report writing and The Enterprising Engineer (a 3-day entrepreneurship event).
The engCETL also engages in research and evaluation of engineering teaching practice, striving to ensure that Loughborough University stays at the leading edge of engineering education.
