Tom completed his BSc Sport and Exercise Science at Aberystwyth University in 2016. Following this, Tom completed his MSc Exercise Physiology at Loughborough University, before taking on his current role as a Research Assistant and part-time PhD Student in 2017. His role includes managing research communication activities for the Peter Harrison Centre for Disability Sport (PHC) through their website, social media and newsletters. Alongside this, Tom assists in ongoing research within the PHC.

Tom also provides physiological support for the GB Wheelchair rugby team as part of the PHC’s ongoing support to the sport. This includes athlete screening and fitness profiling for both elite and talent pathways players.

Tom is a student member of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES). 

Tom is interested in the research area of warm-up - his MSc research project looked into evaluating warm-up routines in elite wheelchair rugby athletes. His PhD will continue this line of work, looking into areas of performance enhancement in disability sport, in particular wheelchair rugby.

Tom also completed his BSc research project around the area of warm-up, in particular post-activation potentiation. He went on to present his findings at the BASES Student Conference in 2016. 

Tom has worked as a sports scientist alongside his MSc for Wolves FC, where he focused on youth development through multisport and strength and conditioning. He also provided continued support for the English Disabled Golf team, with particular focus on the importance of nutrition.

Outside work, Thomas is a very keen sportsman who plays rugby and golf, and is a regular gym goer. Alongside this, he has taken part in Wado-Ryu Karate for 15 years, obtaining his 3rd Dan black belt.
