Big Lottery Fund - NOPES

The Big Lottery Fund allocated £750.75 million for the New Opportunities for PE and Sport (NOPES) initiative throughout the UK.
The NOPES initiative had six key outcomes that funded projects were expected to achieve:
- Improved physical education and sport in schools
- Higher standards across the whole school through PE, sport and other forms of structured activity
- Better opportunities to increase the levels of physical activity among the school age population and, more generally, local communities
- Improved collaboration, co-operation and partnership between schools and their communities
- Promotion of social inclusion through access to, and use of, sports and outdoor adventure facilities by all groups in society
- Innovation and best practice in the design and management of facilities
Note : The Big Lottery Fund is the joint operating name of the New Opportunities Fund and the National Lottery Charities Board (which made grants under the name of the Community Fund). The Big Lottery Fund, launched on 1st June 2004, is distributing half of all National Lottery good cause funding across the UK.
The Loughborough Partnership, led by the Institute of Youth Sport, were commissioned by The Fund to conduct the programme evaluation of the NOPES initiative.
Additionally, the Loughborough Partnership provided guidance and support for both Local Authorities and individual projects wishing to undertake self-evaluation in order to demonstrate the impact of their projects.
This website, designed by the Loughborough Partnership, contains information suitable for a wide audience of stakeholders including those responsible for NOPES projects, local authority managers and other professionals and academics involved in sport and physical activity .
