Mission
Promote, facilitate and conduct academic research into Olympism
and the Olympic Movement
Generate / disseminate an understanding of, and appreciation
for, the ideals and values expressed through Olympism.
Aims
Co-operate with the British Olympic Foundation (BOF), and
various UK sport organisations in academic, cultural, educational
and social scientific fields
Undertake research into Olympism, drawing on the fields of
the humanities, social sciences, including management and policy
analysis
Facilitate, via seminars, conferences and publications, the
dissemination of knowledge relating to Olympism.
Link with organisational elements of the Olympic Movement,
including the IOC, the International Olympic Academy (IOA) and other
nationally based Olympic Studies Centres.
Governance of COS&R
The Centre has a Director, Professor Ian Henry, and three other
Board members, Ms Jan Paterson and Mr Richard Palmer CBE of the
British Olympic Foundation, and Professor Barrie Houlihan, Loughborough
University.
