The Big Lottery Fund has allocated £750.75 million for the New Opportunities for PE and Sport (NOPES) initiative throughout the UK.

The NOPES initiative has six key outcomes that funded projects are expected to achieve. These are:

  • Improved physical education and sport in schools
  • Higher standards across the whole school through PE, sport and other forms of structured activity
  • Better opportunities to increase the levels of physical activity among the school age population and, more generally, local communities
  • Improved collaboration, co-operation and partnership between schools and their communities
  • Promotion of social inclusion through access to, and use of, sports and outdoor adventure facilities by all groups in society
  • Innovation and best practice in the design and management of facilities

For more information about these outcomes and the programme in general see the Big Lottery Fund's vision document 'Building for Tomorrow' which can be downloaded at: www.nof.org.uk

Note : The Big Lottery Fund is the joint operating name of the New Opportunities Fund and the National Lottery Charities Board (which made grants under the name of the Community Fund). The Big Lottery Fund, launched on 1st June 2004, is distributing half of all National Lottery good cause funding across the UK.

The Loughborough Partnership, led by the Institute of Youth Sport, have been commissioned by The Fund to conduct the programme evaluation of the NOPES initiative.

Additionally, the Loughborough Partnership provides guidance and support for both Local Authorities and individual projects wishing to undertake self-evaluation in order to demonstrate the impact of their projects.

This website, designed by the Loughborough Partnership, contains information suitable for a wide audience of stakeholders including those responsible for NOPES projects, local authority managers and other professionals and academics involved in sport and physical activity .

As the programme evaluation progresses the Loughborough Partnership will post regular updates on the evaluation progress page including newsletters and reports on the evaluation findings.

If you have any queries regarding any aspect of the evaluation or self-evaluation support, please feel free to contact us. Answers to frequently asked questions are also available on this website.
