PhD Student


Riyadh has an MSc degree from Basrah University, Iraq, in Sport Education. He came to the UK in 2011 to study English language for one year in London and Manchester. In 2013 he started his PhD in the School of Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences under the supervision of Dr. Matt Pain. Riyadh has a 4th Dan black belt in karate Shotokan and he teaches Shotokan Karate at Loughborough University Shotokan Karate Club.

Biomechanics of intact and injured joints movement in martial arts

Riyadh's research focusses on loading and ranges of motion on the knee and hip joints as risk factors of severe and long term injuries in the Japanese martial art of Karate.
