PhD student

Richard completed his first degree in Psychology at the University of Derby, graduating with First Class BSc (Hons) and receiving the BPS undergraduate award for academic excellence.  He subsequently obtained an MSc in Sport and Exercise Psychology with Distinction from Loughborough University, before undertaking his doctoral research at Loughborough in 2015, under the supervision of Dr. Ian Taylor.

A former professional poker player, Richard is also a keen walker, skier and scuba diver.

Project Title: The Mechanisms of Physical Health: Exploring the Effects of Motivation on Healthy Behavior

Project Summary:

There is evidence to suggest that the underlying motivation behind healthy behaviours may have hormonal, epigenetic and boarder health consequences. Richard’s doctoral research is investigating whether the motivation to engage in healthy behavior could undermine the benefits.
