School expert interviewed by Le Monde following Asian Games hijab controversy
Dr Mahfoud Amara, of the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences, has been interviewed for the French daily newspaper Le Monde.
He was called to give his views on cultural practices and universal values in sport after the Qatar women's basketball team forfeited a match over FIBA's refusal to allow the wearing of hijabs.
Dr Amara's principal research area is comparative sports policy, with a specific interest in sport in Arab and Muslim contexts and he is widely published in the field.
