Research within the area of Art and Design and Art & Design History at Loughborough University is both dynamic and multi-faceted, combining traditional scholarly pursuits with contemporary approaches to the fine and applied arts. All of the staff in the field are active within their own specialist areas, as authors, editors, curators and practitioners.

Design activity is undertaken beneath a broad umbrella of interdisciplinary provision which does not recognise particular disciplines as boundaries but seamlessly links them to provide solutions, research and teaching already recognised as world-leading by governments, industrialists and employers. The Centre for Recent Drawing (C4RD) purpose is to make space for drawing - to maintain the visibility of a characteristically humanist mode of expression and to explore the boundaries of the approach that is drawing. The Centre for Recent Drawing seeks to facilitate access and dialogue for current drawing practice independent of structural forces in commercial and institutional educational settings. Since 2004 C4RD has provided independent non-commercial exhibition space in London and a webservice dedicated to the exhibition of recent drawing.

Providing a public gallery dedicated to the investigation and support of contemporary drawing practice, THE DRAWING ROOM provides a unique resource for the promotion of drawing, its practice, theory and methodology.

The Drawing Center (New York) is a not-for-profit institution in the USA focusing on the exhibition of drawings. It was established to demonstrate the significance and diversity of drawings throughout history, to juxtapose work by master figures with work by emerging and under-recognized artists, and to stimulate public dialogue on issues of art and culture.

AccessArt is a charity committed to furthering the advancement of education in the visual arts. AccessArt has led the way in employing new and creative approaches to teaching and learning particularly for those who learn best visually, spatially and kinaesthetically. AccessArt designs and delivers creative projects in the community and in schools, working with learners of all ages. This learning and teaching is then developed and shared via the AccessArt web site, which is a richly textured, dynamic and inspirational resource bank aimed at pupils, students and life-long-learners, as well as teachers, gallery educators and artists.

The Campaign for Drawing is an independent charity which raises the profile of drawing as a tool for thought, creativity, social and cultural engagement. It has developed two programmes to encourage the use of drawing by professionals and others: The Big Draw and Power Drawing.

The Jerwood Drawing Prize is the largest and longest running annual open exhibition for drawing in the UK, originally established in 1994. The exhibition aims to promote and reward excellence and talent in contemporary drawing practice through the support and recognition of the work of all artists in the field of drawing, including that of established artists and that of emerging artists engaged in the discipline of drawing. The exhibition is open to all artists resident or domiciled in the UK, and works are submitted through the regional collections centres in Cardiff, Cheltenham, Edinburgh, Falmouth, Manchester and London.

Wimbledon School of Art's Centre for Drawing is a public gallery that borrows from the rhythms and characteristics of an art school. It was established in autumn 2000 and is a studio-cum-gallery where drawings are made (rather than simply imported and displayed) during six- or seven-week artist's residencies.

Camberwell's long standing commitment to the practice of drawing focuses on 'drawing as contemporary pursuit into visual thinking'. The BA Drawing course is in its sixth year and MA Drawing, now in its second year, has links with eminent practitioners and other institutions.
