Dr Samir S. Dani BE (Mech.), MMS, MSc (CIM), PhD, FHEA
Senior Lecturer in Operations Management
Dr Samir Dani completed his Mechanical Engineering degree in India in 1993 after which he worked as an Assistant Manager (Tool room) until 1998 in Bajaj Auto Limited which is the largest manufacturer of two and three wheel vehicles in India.
In 1998, he received a DFID UK scholarship to attend the MSc (Computer Integrated Manufacture) course at Loughborough University. He joined Loughborough University in 2000 as a researcher on the EPSRC funded “Systemic Framework for Supply Chain Alignment” project. Samir completed his PhD from Loughborough University in 2005 in “Exploring Transactions between Supply Chain Entities: A Psychological Study of Buyer-Supplier Relationships”.
In 2005, he joined the Wolfson School of Mechanical and Manufacturing, Loughborough University as Lecturer in Manufacturing Organisation. In September 2008 Samir joined Loughborough University Business School as “Senior Lecturer in Operations Management”.
Samir has experience of working as a researcher on EPSRC projects (GR/M74139/01, GR/N21291/01, GR/R64483/01 (project no 44)) in a diverse range of management issues from Supply Chain Alignment, Leadership to E-commerce. A paper resulting from his PhD research entitled “Developing a methodology for aligning supply chains from a relationships perspective” published in the Journal of Engineering Manufacture was awarded the A.M. Strickland Prize by the “Manufacturing Industries Division” of the IMechE, for the best paper of 2006.
His paper “Transformational leadership and Organisational culture: the situational strength perspective” which he co-authored with Masood, S.A., Burns, N.D. and Backhouse, C.J also received the 2006 Donald Julius Groen Prize from the IMechE's Management Group for the best paper of 2006 in the Journal of Engineering Manufacture.
He has recently managed and successfully completed a KTP project with a SME in Lincolnshire to develop an integrated business management system. He is currently running an EPSRC-funded First Grant project titled “Developing a Supply Chain Risk methodology using the Scenario Planning approach”.
He is also involved in the EPSRC-INTERACT Call 5: Building Links with India in the field of “The Digital Economy” - Next Generation Manufacturing Supply Chains and Digital Economy Research Collaboration (NEX-GEMS) project with UK universities (Hull, Cardiff, Nottingham and Brunel) and Indian universities (IIM-Bangalore, IIM- Calcutta, IIT- Bombay and IIT- Kharagpur).
His research interests include: Supply Chain Risk Management, Supply Chain Management, Human Issues in Supply Chains, Human Behaviour, Knowledge Management, New Business Models, Quality Systems, and Operations Management. He supervises PhD and EngDoc students in these areas.
Samir has published in refereed academic journals, including: Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part B: Journal of Engineering Manufacture, International Journal of Production Research, IJSOM and presented at International conferences such as the Logistics Research Network conference, ISL, and the World POMS.
He is a member of the “International Supply Chain Risk Management Network (ISCRiM)” and is Guest Editor for the special issue on “Managing the Uncertainty and Risks in Supply Chains: The Agility Paradigm” for the International Journal of Agile Systems and Management.
He has experience in teaching a wide variety of management topics at UG and PG level.
