Professor Liu received her PhD in International Economics from the University of Birmingham. She has taught a variety of courses in strategic management, international business and international management in both China and the UK.
She has published widely, with publications in Journal of International Business Studies, Research Policy, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Management International Review, Journal of World Business, International Business Review, Manchester School, International Review of Applied Economics and Applied Economics.
Xiaohui’s research has been funded by the British Academy and the Leverhulme Trust, and has been recognised with the Best Competitive Paper award from the Academy of International Business (UK). And in 2008, she co-organised the 19th Annual Conference of the Chinese Economic Association (UK) at Cambridge.
She currently serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Chinese Economic and Business Studies and Organisations and Markets in Emerging Economies. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Chinese Economic Association (Europe/UK). She is the Asia-Pacific Regional Editor of the International Journal of Emerging Markets.
Her main research interests include
- Human mobility (returnee entrepreneurs), international knowledge spillovers and innovation in emerging economies.
- Knowledge learning and knowledge acquisition, and firm performance in high-tech industries.
- The internationalisation strategies of firms from emerging economies, including motives, entry modes, corporate governance and outcomes of international diversification.
