Research - Business
Commissioning
Loughborough University has an enviable reputation with industry, the professions and the public sector for addressing real problems. Collaboration with external bodies is an essential feature of our research, and is central to our history and our purpose.
In the School of Business and Economics we have significant strength in developing long-term partnerships for applied research. We are able to provide organisations with multidisciplinary teams of international-class experts. Our applied research is driven by practical relevance and academic rigour.
Commissioning Research and Consultancy
Often, organisations have problems they need to answers to. If these problems are of a ‘routine’ nature, and do not require generating new knowledge or the application of existing knowledge to new areas of practice – then the problems are clearly defined and the solutions readily forthcoming.
Less well-defined problems often require research to generate new knowledge and to develop new approaches to framing and solving the issues. Such projects are often longer-term, require various sources of expertise and close collaboration between the sponsor and research team.
Research can be commissioned purely because an area is deemed worthy of investigation solely for philanthropic purposes. In this circumstance, a charitable donation to the University can be used to fund the research.
