CHaRM - Environmental Pollution Control
The evidence of serious environmental damage at the local, regional and international / global levels from environmental pollution continues to mount. The consequence is that the pollution control levels of today are constantly perceived as insufficient to combat the harmful environmental outcomes for tomorrow.
While ‘end of pipe’ technological control measures grow in complexity and cost, environmental researchers are moving to investigate wholly novel approaches to environmental risk control which take on a strategic management dimension.
The relationship between strategic business planning and environmental constraints (scientific in essence but legislative in practice) requires much more research, and CHaRM, with its location inside Loughborough University School of Business and Economics, is well positioned to take a leading role.
The focus of research is on managing environmental risks within work organisations so as to safeguard both the environmental and the business worlds. The roles of line managers as well as environmental managers in controlling pollution of the environment will be researched, as will the training and development necessary for them to be effective in this respect.
Organising businesses to take full account of their environmental responsibilities will feature strongly in future research.
