The School of Business and Economics, in partnership with the Alumni Association, hosted an event on 22 November 2011 celebrating 40 years of management education at Loughborough University.
The “Leading the Way” event was attended by School alumni, current placement students and corporate stakeholders and provided an opportunity for guests to network with each other and meet some of the most recent academics to have joined the School.
Speaking were Professors Ilan Oshri, Stewart Robinson and Alistair Milne who gave presentations respectively on the value of outsourcing, lean processes and the implications of new financial regulations. In his opening remarks, the Dean of Business and Economics, Professor Angus Laing, spoke about the School’s important role in developing research that matters and encouraged former students to remain actively engaged with the University.
The event, which took place at London’s America Square conference centre, attracted alumni from across the School’s diverse range of programmes, including students of executive education courses such as Security Management, as well as those who studied business, management, finance and economics.
Current students, working in the City as part of their compulsory year-long professional placement, also took advantage of the opportunity to network and meet the new professors.
In its 40th year of delivering management education, Loughborough University is recognised as one of the leading UK institutions for business and management education. The School of Business and Economics consistently achieves top 10 rankings in The Times, The Independent and The Guardian league tables and was ranked 2nd for Finance & Accounting and 2nd for Management in The Sunday Times this year.
Angus Laing commented of the event: “These are exciting times for the School of Business and Economics as we strive to influence and engage with the world of practice, both through the programmes we offer and through developing research that matters. It was really encouraging to mark this important anniversary with our alumni, many of whom play a key role in continuing to help the School to remain at the forefront of Business and Economics.”
