SBE staff member selected to run for Team GB in Rio

Laura Whittle, who works in the Postgraduate Admissions Team at the School, has been a keen runner for years, specialising in the 5,000m event.

She was recently selected to compete at the European Athletics Championships held in Amsterdam earlier this month and, due to her excellent performance at the Championships (placing 2nd out of the Brits and 5th place overall with a time of 15:24.18), Laura has earned a space on Team GB for the Rio 2016 Olympics!

The Team GB track and field group for the 2016 Games comprises a total of 80 athletes, and Laura joins fellow runners Eilish McColgan and Stephanie Twell in the Women’s 5,000m.

Laura says:

“I am delighted to have been selected to represent Team GB at the Olympic Games in Rio. Running in the Olympics is something that I have dreamed about since I was a little girl, so it is amazing to have been selected. I am so excited and can’t wait to race!”

Well done to Laura in being selected and accomplishing so much! We will all be wishing her the very best luck!
