Dr Grubnic and team win the 2015 CSEAR Teaching Case Study Competition

Dr Grubnic (l), Prof Gond (c) and Prof (Herzig) with the award

Dr Suzana Grubnic, Senior Lecturer in Management Accounting at the SBE, has won the 2015 CSEAR (Centre for Social and Environmental Accounting Research) Teaching Case Study Competition for her case ‘A New Era: Moving from Climate Action to a Broader Sustainability Agenda’.

Dr Grubnic, along with co-authors Professors Christian Herzig (University of Kassel, Germany), Jean-Pascal Gond (Cass Business School) and Jeremy Moon (Copenhagen Business School), based the case on the team’s on-going research at the Commercial Group

The team have conducted research at the Commercial Group over a seven-year period, initially as part of a CIMA-funded research project, but more recently as a longitudinal study on the company's progress on corporate social responsibility.

Dr Grubnic said:

Commercial Group is at the forefront of climate action and therefore considered a sustainability leader.  The company is now seeking to make a social difference to the lives of young people.

Our teaching case offers students insights into the company's attempt to design innovative sustainability programmes.  Moreover, it invites group discussion into the tensions between sustainability objectives and possible ways of reconciling these tensions.

As winners of the competition, their case will be distributed to CSEAR members, both in the UK and abroad, to aid with teaching.  The case could potentially support lectures on CSR, sustainability and sustainable development at UG, MSc, MBA and Executive levels.
