Global student hackathon Social Storm a great success

graduate Helen Ots Helen Ots

Social Storm is a global competitive hackathon that involved students in multinational teams working for 24 hours to tackle gender inequality, climate change and achieving internet access for all.

Using technology available on the internet, up to 15 leading universities worldwide took part in the hackathon during Global Entrepreneurship Week in November.

Social Storm is an organisation founded by enterprise educators from Loughborough University, the University of East Anglia and Plymouth University.

The aim of Social Storm is to connect passionate, enterprising young people to create innovative solutions for global issues. It harnesses the power of young people’s creativity, imagination and resourcefulness and focuses on bringing them together to work in teams.

Commenting on the event, Social Storm’s co-founder and Management Sciences graduate Helen Ots said:

We’re amazed at how much the teams achieved in under 24 hours, in developing an idea into a sustainable business model and pitch, and how many ideas they have to tackle challenges within their own society. We’re hopeful that a similar event in 2016 will bring even more universities and young people together.
