Prizes awarded by LANSCA to top-performing SBE students

Winners with representatives from LANSCA and ICAEW

The School of Business and Economics recently hosted the Leicestershire and Northamptonshire Society of Chartered Accountants (LANSCA) award ceremony. The prizes of £300 were awarded to the highest achieving second year students studying BSc Accounting and Financial Management and BSc Banking, Finance and Management.

LANSCA is the East Midlands regional society of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW), the largest professional accountancy body in the UK.

The event took place in the Brockington Building with all the final year students present. The ICAEW President, Andrew Ratcliffe opened the ceremony with a speech about the challenges facing chartered accountants in an ever-changing world.

Students Abbie Robus and Michaela Struthers were awarded the LANSCA prizes for placing first in the second year of the BSc Accounting and Financial Management and BSc Banking, Finance and Management degrees (2013/14), respectively. These awards were presented by former LANSCA President Mark Hook.

The second two awards were presented by Colin Field, the current LANSCA President. Jennifer Anne Mathieson was awarded the 2014/2015 prize for placing first in the Second Year BSc Accounting and Financial Management, whilst Rajivji Odedra was given the award for placing first in the Second year of BSc Banking, Finance and Management. Rajivji was unable to attend this event, so Stephen Frost, the Programme Director for Accounting and Financial Management, collected the award on his behalf.

Also in attendance was the Regional Director of ICAEW Midlands, Tom Madden, and Regional Executive for LANSCA, Vicky Nolan.

The event ended with a networking lunch in the School of Business and Economics where students were able to meet the visitors from LANSCA and ICAEW.

We are extremely proud of our winners and we hope they go on to achieve great things.
