Students Anthony Rowe and Tyler Bernardini were both named in the British Basketball League (BBL) Team of the Week this week following standout performances with the Leicester Riders.

Rowe and Bernardini, who study Business Management and International Marketing respectively, both excelled on the court which helped extend the Riders' record to 16-3 in third place in the BBL.

Tyler Bernardini joined Loughborough and the Leicester Riders this academic year following graduation from the University Pennsylvania. Bernardini wowed the crowd with a game high 19 points in a big win over the Durham Wildcats.

Anthony Rowe, who began his studies at Loughborough University following his second year with the Riders, continues to regain form following a long period of rehabilitation pouring in 20 points in a road victory over the Manchester Giants on Sunday.

Anthony Rowe shared his thoughts about life in the BBL and balancing professional sport with studying at Loughborough:

“It has been really nice to receive all the positive feedback after the Manchester win. The support has been huge for my rehabilitation. I’m just so grateful to be back on court with my teammate and contributing in games. It’s definitely a mental boost knowing this old dog can still hoop!

“It’s difficult being a student again, but I’m loving it! Loughborough University is as good as its highly described reputation. The biggest challenge is having to sit in a lecture for 3 hours after a 2-3 hour BBL practice… Not easy! Both physically and mentally, but that’s what student-athletes have to deal with, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

The Riders will be looking to Rowe and Bernardini to deliver more outstanding performances again in this Saturday’s BBL Trophy Quarter Final match up against the Worcester Wolves.
