Economics Discipline Group
The Economics Discipline Group, led by Professor David Saal, is dedicated to the provision of high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in economics and the undertaking of rigorous and relevant internationally recognised research in five key areas of economics:
The Economics Group’s research output ranges from traditional academic scholarship published in world-leading scholarly journals to work with a significant impact on public policy. The Group holds regular research seminars and workshops and has its own Economics Working Paper Series. Our Working Papers disseminate the research currently undertaken by our members. They constitute “work in progress” and are published to stimulate discussion and contribute to the advancement of knowledge of economic matters.
Many of the Economics Group’s members are closely affiliated with the School of Business and Economics’ interdisciplinary Research Centres and Interest Groups including:
- Money and Developing Economies RIG
- TRANSIT (a Brexit advisory and research group)
- Centre for Productivity and Performance
The Economics Group is responsible for teaching a suite of high-quality, rigorous and applied undergraduate and postgraduate courses. In the 2016 Sunday Times Good University Guide, our Economics courses were ranked in the Top 10, confirming our place as one of the best providers of economics courses in the UK.
Our courses are underpinned by our research and provide our students new perspectives on some of the most pressing and challenging problems facing the world today. Given our focus on delivering rigorous and relevant economic training, they also equip students with the analytical and practical skills necessary to understand and deal creatively with a range of economic, financial and management issues.
