Why did you choose this course?

I chose my degree at Loughborough primarily because of the university’s sterling academic reputation.

What attracted you to Loughborough University?

Being a rugby player, Loughborough’s reputation for sports attracted me greatly as well as winning the “Best Student Experience” award consistently.

What do you enjoy most about your course?

The actual module content is very interesting and the enthusiasm of the lecturers means that you become genuinely interested about what you’re learning.

What do you think of the teaching quality?

The teaching quality so far has been great and the online content on the university intranet has proved really helpful as well.

What has been your favourite module?

My favourite module so far has been Nuclear Physics. The lecturer had a genuine passion for the subject and gave much more additional information than what was expected, giving a real background to the topics. Additionally the online content and supporting mediums of teaching were excellent.

What support have you had from the department?

The support from the university from the administrative head of the department has been invaluable to me as well as help from the Student Voice advisory service.

Describe a typical day on your course

My typical day consists of getting onto campus at around 9am using the free campus shuttle to get up to my department, then in between lectures I’ll usually go to the library or canteen then after lectures head off to the gym or training.

Will you do a professional placement?

I’m planning on either doing a summer internship or full placement, either in the UK or abroad. I see this as a means to gain invaluable real experience of a working environment and an opportunity to differentiate myself from my peers.

What do you hope to do when you graduate?

Personally I am looking at going into financial services; a degree in Physics from such a prestigious university definitely opens a lot of doors. The numerical and analytical skills I will gain in my degree will be essential for this sort of role.

What would you say to someone considering studying your course?

I would highly recommend doing a degree in Physics at Loughborough because it doesn’t limit your options at all and you have an infinite amount of options for career paths. The skills you’ll gain on the course will be vital for any professional career.

What do you think of the social atmosphere here?

Being a campus university the social atmosphere is great. There are an endless number of opportunities to take part in; the Athletic Union and the Societies Federation ensure there is an activity for everyone to join.

What do you enjoy most about being a student here?

I personally enjoy the social and academic atmosphere the most; as well the achievements of the university as a whole make you proud to attend.

What do you find inspiring about Loughborough University?

I find the university’s sporting achievements the most inspiring. The wealth of athletes that train on campus using the state of the art facilities is excellent, and the results of all the sporting teams overall to win BUCS for the past 31 years is incredible.
