Dr. David Parry passed away on Tuesday 5th May
We are very sorry to have to announce the sad news that Dr. David Parry, a long serving, Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and latterly Visiting Fellow in the department passed away on Tuesday 5th May.
David was a very popular and highly regarded staff member who contributed greatly to many aspects of the department. He was appointed in 1969 and until very recently continued to regularly visit the department to offer his advice and expertise on high strain rate phenomena and testing to both PhD and project students. In the 1970’s David developed a unique form of Hopkinson Bar – an apparatus to measure the mechanical properties of materials a high rates of deformation – whose principles have since been copied in many other institutions. David was a well-respected and highly regarded member of the UK dynamical testing community. He is survived by his wife Rosemary, son Christopher and daughter Rosalind. He will be sadly missed.
