 Background

Educated at St. Petersburg State Technical University, Russia. Joined Loughborough University in 2000 as a PhD student, and acquired his PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 2004. In 2005 was appointed a Lecturer in Mechanics of Materials in the Mechanics of Advanced Materials Research Group.

• Finite Element Modelling of advanced materials and processing techniques (e.g. turning, drilling)
• Ultrasonically Assisted Machining
• Novel drilling methods in aerospace, microelectronics and orthopaedics
• Vibro-impact penetration into the bone tissue and brittle rocks
• Experimental Mechanics (e.g. high-speed and infrared photography, material characterization)
• Technology transfer between academia and industry

Teaching Responsibilities

Alex teaches Engineering Mechanics, Finite Element Analysis and Advanced Manufacturing Technology, and supervises Industry-based Projects (Part-B).
