Obtained a B.Sc. (Hons) in Human Biology (1st class), from Loughborough University and a Ph.D. in Sports and Exercise Science from the The University of Birmingham. Appointed Lecturer in Sports Technology at Loughborough in 1999. From 1999 to 2003, was Programme Director for the Sports Technology Programme; a degree which covers design, manufacture, testing and marketing of sports
equipment. Principal investigator on several commercially sponsored EPSRC / DTI funded projects. Past and current industrial collaborators include: The International Tennis Federation; Speedo International; DuPont Sports Textiles; Reebok Fitness; Huntleigh Healthcare; and
adidas. Awards for innovation and enterprise, include 3 DTI Smart Awards, and a Design Council Millennium Product Award. Research featured within the British Science Museum, on the BBC’s Tomorrow’s World programme and in all the UK broadsheet newspapers. A named inventor on several patents, also licensed a number of fitness products to third parties, most notably an exercise platform to Reebok.
