PhD Research Student

Alex Shaw came to Loughborough University in 2010 when he studied for his Undergraduate Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering. He has since embarked on completing a multidisciplinary PhD sponsored by the Loughborough Doctoral College, in the Plasma and Pulsed Power Research Group, under the supervision of Dr. Felipe Iza of the School of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering and Dr. Gilbert Shama of the Department of Chemical Engineering.

October 2013 – Present PhD, Plasma and Pulsed Power Research Group, School of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering, Loughborough University

June 2013 – October 2013 Summer Studentship, Plasma and Pulsed Power Research Group, School of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering, Loughborough University

October 2010 – June 2013 BEng (Hons), Electronic and Electrical Engineering, School of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering, Loughborough University

“Atmospheric pressure plasmas for applications in the health and food industries”

Alex’s research includes the treatment of fungi and bacteria using plasma, applications of cold atmospheric pressure plasmas in the horticultural and food production industries, plasma penetration beyond the surface of the skin and the development of novel plasma application devices. His research requires expertise in both Electronic & Electrical Engineering and Microbiology.
