We are a group of researchers from the University of Agder, in Norway (Prof Yuriy Rogovchenko and Dr Olov Viirman) and Loughborough University, in the United Kingdom (Dr Stephanie Thomas and Dr Paul Hernandez-Martinez).
Our research study, Discourses of Mathematical Modelling in Higher Education in Norway and England, is funded by a grant from the Centre for Research, Innovation and Coordination of Mathematics Teaching (MatRIC), based at the University of Agder in Norway.
We are investigating the views and use of Mathematical Modelling (MM) in undergraduate courses in England and Norway from the perspective of lecturers that are based in a mathematics department. Through an online survey we aim to develop a framework that categorises the different views and uses of MM in undergraduate courses and any differences that may exist in Norway and England.
Your answers will be treated anonymously, which means that you or your institution will NOT be identifiable in any communication or publication that results from this research.
Through participating in the survey you will have the opportunity to enter into a raffle to win one of two iPads (one for Norwegian and one for English respondents). We may also invite you to a follow-up interview. This is separate from the survey and participation is entirely voluntary. More details will be provided at a later point and only a small representative sample will be invited in both countries.
Thank you for your interest. If you require further information, contact:
