Dr Lara Alcock awarded National Teaching Fellowship
On October 15, Lara Alcock was awarded her National Teaching Fellowship at a ceremony in Liverpool Cathedral.
She took as her guest Matthew Inglis, with whom she has worked for several years on research studies about students' learning of undergraduate mathematics. Also in attendance was Carol Robinson, former head of the MEC and now Director of the Centre for Academic Practice.
Lara won the award for her work in disseminating the results of research on learning to audiences of students and mathematicians, via her books How to Study for a Mathematics Degree and How to Think about Analysis and via practitioner-focused articles like the recent Investigating and Improving Undergraduate Proof Comprehension [pdf], published in the Notices of the American Mathematical Society.
